A 13-year-old student at Chimacum Middle School in Washington has been charged with three counts of first-degree rape after raping a seven-year-old girl on a school bus several times.

The case was reported to the police after the victim told her aunt and her aunt took her to a physician. He was expelled from the school and released to his family until the legal case is resolved.

The alleged rapist and the victim shared a bus despite being six years apart in age because the school district did not separate students by age. District officials are now considering a revision of this policy.

The accused teenager is scheduled to appear in court on July 15th. If convicted, he will only serve a maximum sentence of 108 weeks in juvenile detention because of his age.
