22-year-old Joseph Galloway and 23-year-old Kayla Madden, from Laurens, South Carolina, were arrested on Tuesday, July 14th after their 6-month-old, Mason Madden, stopped breathing as a result of their abuse.

The incident began when Galloway called officials reporting that the baby was not breathing. Emergency medical services arrived at the house and discovered the child in cardiac arrest. He was admitted to the hospital and placed on life support. He was later pronounced dead on Wednesday, July 15th at 2:02 p.m.

Galloway was arrested on Tuesday and was denied bond. He was charged with abuse to inflict great bodily harm to a child, and on Thursday, July 16th, his charges were upgraded. He was expected to have a bond hearing on the new charge at 4 p.m. Thursday.

Madden was also expected to have a separate bond hearing at 4 p.m. Thursday. She has been charged with unlawful conduct towards a child.
