A high school teacher in Alabama was arrested Tuesday morning after allegations of being sexually involved with a student.

29-year-old Katherine Nelson, an English teacher at Brookwood High School, is charged with a school employee engaging in a sex act with a student under the age of 19.

According to investigators, the relationship occurred during the 2012-2013 school year. School officials alerted authorities this week.

A warrant was obtained and she turned herself in to authorities.

“At this time, the investigation has not shown any evidence to indicate that any other students or teachers are involved in the alleged incident,” according to a sheriff’s office press release.

A representative of the superintendent’s office at Tuscaloosa County Schools declined to say whether or not Nelson is still employed at the high school.

According to the school’s website, she teaches English, musical theater, and coaches golf and cheerleading.

Nelson isn’t the first Brookwood teacher charged with sexual involvement with a student either. Joe Bradley Petrey was charged with the exact same thing back in August of 2015.

Ms. Nelson is now out on bond.
