ON 12.28 OFFICER IAN COOPER RESPONDED TO SEASIDE FAMILY PRACTICE AT 407 LIVEOAK STREET , BEAUFORT. STAFF AT THE PRACTICE REPORTED THAT THEY RECEIVED A TELEPHONE CALL FROM WALMART PHARMACY WANTING VERIFICATION THAT THEY HAD WRITTEN A PRESCRIPTION FOR BRITTNEY PINER. STAFF ADVISED THAT THEY HAD NOT WRITTEN ANY PRESCRIPTIONS TO PINER. THE STAFF ADVISED THE PHARMACY THAT IN FACT, BRITTNEY PINER IS EMPLOYED AT SEASIDE FAMILY PRACTICE AS A MEDICAL ASSISTANT. STAFF AT WALMART PHARAMCY THEN DISCOVERED THAT THERE WERE 20 OTHER TIMES THAT PINER HAD A PRESCRIPTION FILLED. PINER USED MEDICAL ID NUMBERS OF 2 NURSE PRATICIONERS AT THE PRACTICE.

FURTHER INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT PINER HAD PRESCRIPTIONS FILLED AT NUMEROUS OTHER PHARAMCIES IN BEAUFORT AND PHARMACIES IN CARTERET AND CRAVEN COUNTIES .

THE INVESTIGATION ALSO REVEALED THAT PINER HAD CALLED IN WEEKLY FOR HYROCODONE AND ALPRZOLAM OF VARYING AMOUNTS OVER THE PAST YEAR – TOTALING MORE THEN 2500 DOSAGE UNITS.

ON 12.28, WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF CARTERET COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT, BEAUFORT OFFICERS SERVED PINER WITH WARRANTS FOR ARREST AT HER HOME ON MCDANIEL DRIVE JUST OUTSIDE OF BEAUFORT. AT THE TIME OF HER ARREST, PINER TURNED OVER APPROX. 120 UNITS OF HYDROCODONE AND ALPRAZOLAM SHE HAD IN A MAKEUP BAG.

PINER WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE CARTERET COUNTY JAIL AND MAGISTRATE’S OFFICE FOR PROCESSING.
