On 12/02/2010 at approximately 10:30pm Pereira was accusing of breaking into a home on Chatham Street in Newport and kidnapping the child through a window.
Within a short time span after the boy’s
mother called 911 to report her missing
son a concerned citizen called 911 to report that someone with a small child was knocking on doors asking for gas. Deputies found Pereira and the child walking on Nine Mile Road in Newport partially clothed in very cold weather. Pereira was immediately taken into custody and the child was transported to Carteret General Hospital.
Pereira was given an active sentence of a minimum of 18.4 years and maximum of 23.6 years in the NC Department of Corrections.
Pereira who was originally arrested in the early morning hours of 12/03/2010 remained in the Carteret County Jail under a 1.4 million dollar bond pending trial. Pereira has since been transferred to the NC Department of Correction to being serving his sentence.
