Officer Steven Westfall from the Pocatello Police Department is now facing a charge after he was caught on a dashcam video using unnecessary force to subdue a suspect. On July 10, 2015, the police were arresting a suspect after responding to a disturbance call. While making the arrest, Westfall pressed the suspect’s head against the patrol car, then threw an elbow into the side of his face to subdue him. The suspect was charged with trespassing, resisting, and obstruction.
Westfall has been placed on paid administrative leave. If convicted on the charge, he could be sentenced to one year in prison and be given a $5,000 fine.
