A Florida mother is in hot water after she sent her 13-year-old son to bed after he’d been shot. “just go to bed” after he’d been shot is facing felony child-neglect charges.

35-year-old Latasha Lanette Staley let her son go to a street party this past weekend and he was hit by a bullet about 5 a.m. Sunday.

She told authorities that she didn’t want to get police involved, so she waited for several hours before taking him to a hospital when he could no longer bear the pain.

According to Titusville Police Chief John Lau, “The juvenile said, ‘I was shot’, and she said, ‘It looks like a graze; just go to bed.’”

If all that weren’t bad enough, when investigators got to the hospital, she said, “Had I known all of this was going to happen, I wouldn’t have taken him to the hospital at all.”

The young boy has had his own run-ins with the law. He was involved in a shooting back in August, and is on probation for stealing a car and assault with a deadly weapon. His mother was supposed to be supervising him.

She was arrested Wednesday morning at the Wendy’s fast food restaurant where she worked.

She’s been charged with felony child neglect and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

She was released on bond.
