A Florida woman sick and tired of her dog’s barking decided to duct tape its mouth shut. She then posted a photo of it (below) to Facebook with the caption, ‘This is what happens when you dont (sic) shut up!!!’. Her friends, then many, many others, went nuts!

Katie Brown claims she only did it for ‘sixty seconds’ as one of her friends begged her to tell everyone she didn’t actually do it. (As if that’s possible after a photograph showing it indeed did happen was already posted. She wrote, ‘I cant lie i did it for sixty seconds. It was time out and no more barking.’

No matter what anyone said or threatened, she kept the photo up.

‘Dont panic everyone it was only for a minute but hasn’t barked since… POINT MADE!!!’ she said, defiantly.

According to South Daytona Police Department’s Telecommunications Supervisor Mimi Perez, they received calls regarding the photo from 44 states, three provinces, and as far away as Australia. Volusia County Animal Services says it’s received over 600 calls and emails.

Police looking for Ms. Brown to question her and check on the dog were unable to find her. Her family claim she hasn’t lived at her Florida address for over a year. They said she moved to Avon, Connecticut. But police there say they’ve investigated and that they’ve determined the incident didn’t happen there and referred it back to Florida. Officers in Torrington, Connecticut looked for her as well. No dice.

Finally, Saturday morning, the city of South Daytona posted an update to Facebook: “Police have determined that this person was out of state for the holiday weekend. It appears that the photo was taken at that location. We have information to indicate that the dog is OK at this time. However, the police will be contacting this person once she returns to our City. Rest assured that a full investigation will be done and appropriate action will be taken. Again, thank you for the outpouring of concern and sharing of information.”
