Former Captain in the Georgia Department of Corrections Accused of Using His Position to Sexually Abuse Female Inmates

Several former inmates are held within the Georgia Department of Corrections are suing the department over allegations of sexual abuse at a women’s prison.

The women say former Captain Edgar Daniel Johnson used his position of power to attack them in his office at the Emanuel Women’s Facility in Swainsboro, Georgia.

The alleged assaults happened over a four-year period, with some of attacks occurring as recently as last year.

The women say he also threatened to prolong their sentences, deny them parole, and keep them from seeing their children.

The women in the lawsuit are calling for the Georgia Department of Corrections to create a task force and increase training on stopping sexual assault in the prison system.

Edgar Daniel Johnson is also facing criminal charges.

The investigation is still ongoing.
