A drug smuggling sting and bust in Arizona netted a Honduran woman. In addition to the drug charges, she’s now also facing a charge of animal cruelty for allegedly punching a border agent’s horse.
Border Patrol agents were conducting the operation last Saturday, when, late that night, they witnessed nine people in the desert with seven large backpacks.
The backpacks were found to contain 374 pounds of marijuana, with an approximate street value of half a million dollars.
29-year-old Karla Banegas-Banegas was part of that group and is reported to have punched a Border Patrol horse in the face.
She was booked into jail on suspicion of drug possession and transport, as well as animal cruelty to a work animal.
Her bond has been set at $20,000.
