A husband-and-wife bodybuilding team have proven that their own bodies are much more important to them than those of their horses. This became beyond obvious when three horses were found horribly emaciated and malnourished on their South Florida ranch by authorities.
The horses’ stalls were filthy; filled with trash and sharp debris, according to the South Florida Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SFSPCA). Their grain feeders were filled with feces, and one horse could barely even walk due to not having its hooves trimmed ‘in at least a year’.
The photo above shows the proud couple with a stunningly beautiful horse that they posted to their Facebook. That same horse is shown below about a year later, having lost much of its hair and weight.
In a jaw-dropping display of a total lack of empathy and/or taking responsibility, Mrs. Milagros Cowan, 50, (above, left) said to investigators, “There’s nothing to worry about. They’re just a little thin and need dewormed.â€
Her arraignment came on Friday for four counts of misdemeanor animal abuse.
Her husband, Alex Paez, 48, (above, right) has a lawyer who was equally dismissive of the severity, saying, “I wish the police would spend more time on human victims and child victims, than on horses who skipped a meal.â€
The husband was charged on May 27th, also with misdemeanor animal abuse. He’d been charged for the same thing before; back in 2011, but the charges were dropped after he’d gone through a first-time offender intervention program.
All of the horses are now in the care of the SFSPCA, which houses roughly 65 rescued horses.
“The horses have been eating and have gained a lot of weight,” said Laurie Waggoner, SFSPCA’s director of ranch operations.
