Michael Maldonado, 25, allegedly escaped from Porter County authorities shortly after 11am on Monday just moments after officers had parked in the garage of the Porter County Jail. Surveillance footage shows two police vehicle pulling into the garage and parking. The officers are seen getting out of the vehicle and walking toward an exit as the garage door begins to close. A closer look inside one of the police cars, Maldonado is seen moving around and climbing into the driver’s seat of the patrol car. He then opens the driver’s door and makes a beeline to the opening in the garage door. According to Portage Police, Maldonado was initially taken into custody on charges of resisting law enforcement, resisting law enforcement with injury and possession of a hypodermic needle stemming from a traffic stop in Portage. Police announced they had recaptured Maldonado late on Tuesday night.
