Brad Lee Davis, a 33-year-old Oklahoma man, has been charged with first-degree manslaughter in the death of his stepfather, 58-year-old Denver St. Clair. It’s the bizarre method that makes this more of a viral news story; death by atomic wedgie.
An atomic wedgie, for those unfamiliar, is when your underwear is pulled up and out from behind you, usually by the waistband. What separates it from your regular, run-of-the-mill wedgie, however, is that once the underwear is pulled up and out, it isn’t released – it’s pulled up and over your head.
Well, once Brad had done this to his stepdad, Denver, the man asphyxiated.
It all started when Denver, who had filed divorce from Brad’s mother back in September of 2014, started calling him and his mother worthless while the two were drinking just four nights before Christmas.
When Brad resorted to this juvenile form of brutality, the waistband of Mr. St. Clair’s underwear had pressed too tightly around his neck, strangling him. It even left ligature marks. The official cause of death was listed as asphyxiation and blunt force trauma. Yet to be explained, though, was blood splatter found in the kitchen, the living room, and on the living room ceiling.
Brad pleaded guilty on Monday to first-degree manslaughter. He is being held in Pottawatomie County Jail without bond.
