30-year-old Laura Garrigus, a married mother of three and a teacher in North Carolina, has been arrested after having a sexual relationship with a female teen student for months.

She resigned from the Cumberland International Early College after she was reported. She’s accused of having an “inappropriate physical relationship” with a 17-year-old female student for up to two months. That relationship began in October.

Said relationship ended in December after the teen girl reported the teacher to police.

She’s charged with four counts of taking indecent liberties with a student, and two counts of sexual offense with a student.

Each charge is for a separate physical encounter. She’s being held on $50,000 bail and is not allowed to have any contact with minors under 18, including her own two sons and her daughter.

“Not even my own children?” she asked the judge during her court appearance.

“You will not be around any child under age 18,” Judge Cheri-Siler-Mack stressed.

Authorities told a local news station that the sexual relationship appeared to be consensual and happened off-campus.

While investigators say evidence indicates it was a consensual relationship, she’s still charged for breaking state laws that prevent sex between a student and a teacher.
