A Missouri father is looking for justice for his son after he died while in police custody.

44-year-old Officer Anthony Piercy had arrested then-21-year-old Brandon E. Ellingson on suspicion of boating while intoxicated.

He would have turned 22 years old this month and was at the Lake of the Ozarks when the incident took place.

Officer Piercy arrested Brandon, placed him in handcuffs on the police boat, but failed to secure his life vest.

Somehow, he fell overboard while his hands were still cuffed behind his back. His life vest was immediately found in the water, but the body wasn’t found until the next day.

Officer Piercy was initially cleared of any wrongdoing after a jury ruled the death an accident, but Brandon’s father kept at it and pushed for charges to be filed.

Prosecutor William Seay announced charges of involuntary manslaughter against the officer.
