A nurse in Syracuse, New York has surrendered her medical license after taking pictures of an unconscious patient’s penis and filming a woman’s rectum during surgery.

27-year-old Kristen Johnson was under a nine-month investigation after her coworkers at State University of New York Upstate Medical Hospital complained about her behavior.

She was arrested back in 2015 and originally charged with two counts of unlawful surveillance, felonies, and disseminating unlawful surveillance, a misdemeanor.

She’d used her iPhone 5 to take a picture of a male patient’s penis, and filmed as another nurse was cleaning a female patient’s gastrointestinal blood clot.

She then sent the video showing the female’s rectum to the nurse, who’d been doing the procedure, in a text message.

The video and the photograph were both found on Ms. Johnson’s laptop after it was seized during the aforementioned investigation, which was conducted by the Onondaga County District Attorney’s office and the State University Police.

She pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor charge of disseminating unlawful surveillance, and agreed to give up her nursing license in a plea deal that dropped the felony charges against her.

As part of that plea deal, she’ll also receive three years of probation.

The Department of Education says Johnson “did not contest the charge of moral unfitness in the practice”.

“Despite what certain people seem to think, it is a crime in the state of New York to view, broadcast or record images of another person’s intimate body parts, surreptitiously,” District Attorney William Fitzpatrick said.

Both patients and their families were notified of what Ms. Johnson had done.
