An Ohio man waited 15 hours to call for help after knowing his wife placed his 4-year-old son in scalding hot water, eventually causing the little boy’s death, and a grand jury has indicted him for it.
Robert Ritchie was indicted Monday on charges of involuntary manslaughter and child endangerment.
In March, his wife, Anna, put 4-year-old Austin Cooper into water estimated to be at a scorching 130 degrees for at least 20 minutes…and she did it as punishment for his not wanting to take a bath.
He was bleeding and had skin coming off of his legs when she put his pajamas on him and put him into bed at 4:30 in the afternoon.
Investigators say Mr. Ritchie knew he’d been scalded and was blistering. He found his son dead the next morning.
Frank Schiavone IV, his attorney, says he believes justice will prevail.
Anna has outright denied the allegations and has been charged with murder, felonious assault, child endangerment, and three other charges.
The prosecutor says that the Ritchies only had custody of Austin in the first place because the boy’s biological mother didn’t show up for a custody hearing, and believes that Anna was resentful of being “forced” to become his stepmother and caregiver.
She’s being held on a $1 million bond.
