A Pennsylvania father was “carelessly and recklessly” waving a gun around a bedroom with seven children present when it went off, killing his 4-year-old daughter.

30-year-old Maurice Phillips has been charged with third-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter, child endangerment, and reckless endangerment for the incident.

It occurred this past Saturday, and the victim was 4-year-old Tahirah Phillips.

The little girl and her six brothers and sisters were watching TV when Phillips came in and started waving the gun around. It went off and hit the girl in the back of her head.

Police believe that he then resorted to striking his 5-year-old daughter and wiping blood on her shirt in order to make it look as if she’d done it. Police actually believed this for a time.

Phillips fled, but later surrendered and eventually confessed.
