A Pennsylvania man has been sentenced for beating and pulling the teeth of his girlfriend’s autistic 4-year-old son.

28-year-old Nicholas Kernechel had agreed to watch the boy so his girlfriend could go out with friends on the night of July 18, 2015.

When she returned home, she says she found her son asleep on the floor of his bedroom with his face beaten, his lips swollen, and three of his teeth missing.

According to medical staff, the boy’s teeth were extracted; not the result of being dropped and his face hitting a nightstand, as Mr. Kernechel contended.

He was sentenced to two-to-10 years in state prison, with time served, on charges of simple assault, endangering the welfare of a child, recklessly endangering another person, and false reporting.

He narrowly avoided a felony charge as a part of a plea deal that the prosecution offered to keep the victim from having to testify.
