A Pennsylvania man was arrested after sexually assaulting a teen Amish girl who was “gifted” to him. He also fathered two children with her.
An astounding 12 girls, ages 6 to 18 years old, were found in the home of 51-year-old Lee Kaplan when an anonymous caller told authorities something was afoot over there.
Four years ago, the parents of a majority of the children found in the home “gifted” their then-14-year-old daughter, now 18, to him after he helped get them out of debt.
Previous to the gifting, the girl lived with her parents in Amish country before her and her family were kicked out of the community. The reasons are unknown at this time.
The young girl had two kids by Mr. Kaplan. The rest of the children were her brothers and sisters, and lived with Kaplan and her parents.
He and the girl’s parents are now each being held on $1 million bail in the Bucks County Jail.
Kaplan was charged with two counts of statuary sexual assault, two counts of aggravated indecent assault, two counts of corruption of minors, two counts of unlawful contact with a minor, all felonies, and two counts of indecent assault of a person less than 16 years of age, the latter being misdemeanors.
The victim’s unnamed father has been charged with conspiracy to commit endangering the welfare of a child, criminal conspiracy of sexual assault, and endangering the welfare of a child. Her likewise unnamed mother has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
Authorities are still interviewing with the children, but are reaching out to the the Amish community for help because it’s unknown if any of the children were being held against their will, and whether or not their being so sheltered affected if they knew that what was happening was even wrong.
