On 12/19/2012 Carteret County Deputies arrested Phyllis Henderson Williams, 63, of 1648 Hwy 24 in Newport. Williams is the mother of Rhonda Hagan who remains in custody charged with the murder of her great aunt Goldie Hall.
On 09/20/2012 Rhonda Hagan is accused of murdering Hall resulting from a dispute over money. On 10/01/2012 an autopsy of Hall revealed she died from blunt force trauma to the head.
After the arrest of Hagan the case remained and still is considered an active investigation. On 12/19/2012 District Attorney Scott Thomas authorized criminal charges against Hagan’s mother, Phyllis Williams, for her role in the case.
District Attorney Scott Thomas said, “Mrs. Williams has been charged today based upon her conduct after the death of Mrs. Hall. This case remains an active investigation and additional charges against Mrs. Hagan and Mrs. Williams are possible. Mrs. Williams will appear in Carteret County District Court on Thursday for her felony first appearance. Again, I would like to commend Sheriff Buck and his team for their work investigating this tragic death. “
Williams has been charged with Accessory after the Fact of Murder, Obstruction of Justice, and Failing to Report a Death, all felony crimes. Williams was placed in the Carteret County Jail under a $300,000.00 bond.
