Daniel Mitchell, 18, was seen pulling in to a parking space at Sunset Shopping Center in Siusun City, California in his grey Toyota shortly after 3pm. He came to a stop then calmly lifted his two-week-old son out of the backseat and placed him on the ground in his car seat and drove off. The baby was left alone for just two minutes before a barber (bottom left) who was working nearby spotted him. He brought the infant out of the sun and called police. Mitchell was arrested nearby after crashing his car then attempting to flee the scene. Once he was in custody, police determined that he was the father of the abandoned baby boy. The baby remains in hospital in a critical condition but police have not yet revealed the nature of his injuries. The boy’s mother, who Mitchell is married to, prayed for their son’s recovery on social media on Tuesday. Mitchell was on bail for burglary at the time of the incident. He faces charges for felony hit-and-run, child endangerment and cocaine possession.
