A Texas man has been convicted of felony animal cruelty and sentenced to 45 days in jail, plus two years in state jail, for leaving an extension cord wrapped around the neck of a pit bull pup until it actually embedded itself in the little dog’s neck.
30-year-old Daniel Loredo was convicted last April and sentenced last week.
But the majority of his sentence, 730 days in all, were suspended, so he only has to serve 45 days in jail, with a $2,000 fine and five years of supervision.
The dog, which is less than a year old, was taken to the SPCA of Ellis County, where it had to be put down because of an infection caused by the extension cord.
As part of his sentence, he won’t be allowed to own any animals during his five years of supervision.
