Thief Pretends to Be a Customer Buying Sandals Before Robbing Store

On June 28, 2015, CCTV camera captured the moment that a man entered a Payless Shoe Store located at 700 East Hunting Park Avenue. Initially, the man appeared to be a customer who wanted to buy a pair of sandals. A woman who worked at the store showed him where the sandals were and he picked out a pair.

When the woman went to the cash register to complete the sale, his true intent was revealed. The man demanded money from the cash register and told the cashier that he was armed with a handgun. He then went behind the counter and stole some money from the cash register and fled the scene.

The thief is described as a black male, 50 years of age, 5’6″–5’9″, 200lbs, with scruffy beard and mustache, last seen wearing a red Phillies cap, gray sweatshirt, tan khaki pants, black and gray sneakers, and he walked hunched over.

East Detective Division is asking for the public’s assistance to identify and locate this suspected robber. If you see this suspect, do not approach him. Contact 911 immediately.
