25-year-old Megan Gaylord was arrested after her 3-year-old daughter was tested and found with high levels of cocaine in her system.

The police responded to a disturbance call at the Baton Rouge apartment of Gaylord. Upon their arrival to investigate the matter, they found the apartment in deplorable condition. The apartment was covered with dog feces, spoiled food, trash, dirty diapers and other unknown substances.

While talking to the mother the police smelled a strong odor of marijuana. The officers reported that, because of the condition of the apartment, they could not continue with the investigation.

The officers then called Child Services to report the home’s living conditions and emergency personnel to transport Gaylord and her daughter to the Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center that was nearby.

The doctor later told the police that the infant tested positive for high levels of cocaine, and that Gaylord tested positive for cocaine, marijuana, and other controlled substances.

The child was taken into the care of Child Services and the mother was arrested and booked at the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Monday, June 29th, and charged with cruelty to a juvenile.

She is being held on a $7,500 bond.
