Gloria Drummer, a 57-year-old Connecticut woman, has been arrested after the random stabbing of a woman in the head outside of a CVS pharmacy.
The Farmington location’s surveillance cameras were recording when the woman, for no apparent reason, brandished a 10-inch butcher knife and stabbed the 27-year-old victim in the head. She then exclaimed, “You’re lucky I didn’t scalp you,†before calmly going to sit at a nearby bus stop.
The unnamed woman then collapsed to the ground as her boyfriend and CVS employees rushed to her aid.
It seemed, by all accounts, as though the woman had waited for the victim, but she claims she didn’t know her and had never spoken to her before.
Gloria had been inside the store buying cigarettes and, according to witnesses, rambling incoherently to herself shortly before the incident unfolded.
“She was rambling on and said ‘Just take me to jail, take me to jail for what I did,’†West Hartford Police Lieutenant Ted Stoneburner said.
He added, “First thing is to protect the victim and citizens. The suspect obviously has a mental disability, and we’re in extensive training for all our officers to deal with people with emotional disabilitiesâ€
The woman who was attacked was treated for her injuries, primarily a one-inch gash on the top of her head, and is recovering.
Gloria Drummer made suicidal statements, according to police, so she was taken to the UConn Health Center for a mental health evaluation.
She’s been charged with first-degree assault and breach of the peace, and is being held on a $100,000 bond.
