A worker at the Amazon fulfillment center near Lake Nona was arrested Tuesday, accused of stealing nearly $4,000 in merchandise and gift cards — and shipping the site’s customers empty boxes.
The worker, 20-year-old Elvis Edgardo Soto, faces a felony charge of third-degree grand theft. He was booked into the Orange County Jail early Tuesday and has since been released on bail.
Brenda Alfred, a public relations manager for the company, said in an email Wednesday that Soto “no longer works for Amazon.”
According to an arrest report, a loss prevention employee at Amazon discovered the theft after running a report for gift cards that had been redeemed within six hours of being issued by the 2.4-million-square-foot warehouse on Boggy Creek Road.
