Christina Regusters is a 22-year-old woman who worked at a Philadelphia daycare which a five-year-old girl attended after school every day. She apparently used this to set her sights on the little girl.

Ms. Regusters had been suspended from the daycare for unknown reasons and was home the day that the girl went missing back in January of 2013. She’d donned Muslim garb – pretending to be the girl’s mother – and taken her out of the building. It was all caught on the school’s surveillance cameras.

The school didn’t even realize anything was amiss until six hours later when classes were dismissed for the day.

She had blindfolded the girl, stuffed her in a laundry bag, and sexually abused her ‘with a sharp object’. The girl had been held captive for 19 hours in all.

She was discovered at 4:40 a.m. the next day after a man walking by heard her screams at a playground. She had suffered what were described as ‘devastating injuries’ and needed a colostomy for six months. She has since recovered – physically anyway.

Regusters was found guilty last September of kidnapping the girl at around 8:50 a.m. from Bryant School in West Philadelphia.

In court on Monday, she apologized to the young girl: “I’m asking for your forgiveness.I am sorry. Although you may not take it, I apologize.”

She want on to claim that she was ‘not a monster’. She also maintains that her only role was taking the girl from people she hasn’t named, and leaving her half-naked at the playground.

The young victim also addressed the judge, and her words caused several in the courtroom to cry: “I think what she did to me was wrong, and I think she shouldn’t do it to anyone else.”

Christina Regusters was sentenced to 40 years to life in prison. If she’s ever released, she’ll be facing up to 20 years of probation and will have to register as a sex offender for life.
The girl’s family has since sued the Philadelphia School District.
