A north Douglas County woman who was a teacher at a Lane County Christian school has been sentenced to prison for having sexual contact with a student.

Andrea Nicole Baber of Curtin was sentenced by Douglas County Circuit Court Judge Ann Marie Simmons to 20 months in prison, on three counts of third-degree rape, with each of the three sentences running concurrently.

Baber, who was 29 at the time she was arrested, was a teacher at Logos Christian Academy on Game Farm Road in Springfield when the affair occurred with a 15-year-old male student in 2016.

Baber was arrested in December 2017. According to investigators, the “sexual relationship” with the student continued “on a regular basis,” and Baber provided the minor with marijuana and alcohol, according to court documents.

The allegations were first reported to law enforcement after the boy’s father received an anonymous email asking whether he knew his teenage son was having sexual contact with Baber, according to court documents. Attached to the email were several photos of Baber and the boy in bed together. The two were then caught in bed together by Baber’s husband.

Florida teacher Diane Tirado doesn’t believe in giving credit where it’s not due. The school she used to work at apparently does.

Tirado says she was fired from her job at a Port St. Lucie K-8 school because she insisted on giving students zeros if they didn’t turn in an assignment.

She told WPTV that she assigned an explorer notebook project and gave students two weeks to turn it in. Several students failed to do so.

In Tirado’s mind, no work should mean no credit. But then she checked the West Gate student and parent handbook. Below the chart detailing the score requirements for letter grades, there was a line in red ink.

Tirado said she asked administrators what the score should be if a student doesn’t turn anything in.

“We give them a 50,” she was told.

“I go, ‘Oh, we don’t.’ This isn’t kosher,” Tirado said.

What happened next might also qualify as not being kosher. Tirado was fired on Sept. 14.

The principal sent her a letter, but it did not mention the reason for her termination because Tirado was still in her probationary period.

The new images were published on Friday as part of a detailed investigative report by the Sun-Sentinel into the February 14 shooting in Parkland, Florida, in which 17 people died. The report details the incompetence and blunders on the part of the Broward County Sheriff’s office and school district that led to a delayed and bungled response to the shooting. Also seen for the first time are heartbreaking photos of students crowded into a hallway responding to a fire alarm, and a chilling image of the bullet damage to hurricane windows that prevented the shooter from firing on first responders.

In a forensic interview for police, the victim says it started when he was texting his teacher in a classroom chatroom called “Class Craft.” According to the victim, Zamora made an announcement she wasn’t going to be at school, so she asked her students to text her because she would be bored. The texting between the victim and his teacher then turned into flirting.

The victim says Zamora sent him nude pictures. At the time this was happening, police documents reveal the school principal, Tim Dickey, received a written statement from three female students on Feb. 7 of “issues” between Zamora and the victim.

However, Dickey told detectives he did not speak to two of the three female students who sent him the written statement. Dickey admitted to detectives it was a mistake.

The victim’s parents tell detectives their son disclosed two sexual encounters that occurred Feb. 16 and 17.

The victim says in his forensic interview that Zamora reached out to him at midnight, drove out to his grandparents’ home where he was, and then waited for him to sneak out. Another encounter happened on school campus after a school talent show. According to detectives who spoke to the victim’s parents, there were at least four sexual encounters.

The victim’s stepmom says she noticed her son was acting oddly and wanting to shut his door at night, so she installed a parental app on his phone called Sentry.

Documents say the victim’s stepmom began getting alerts back-to-back with the word “baby.” She showed her son the alerts and asked him who it was, and he responded, “My teacher.”

Zamora told the victim’s parents she didn’t want to be on the news. She insisted the victim’s parents meet with her in person.

“I don’t want to say stuff and have me recorded right now and bring this to court and have me go to jail for the rest of my life,” said Zamora during the call.

Zamora was arrested after that recorded phone call. She was on her way to Las Brisas Academy when police pulled her over and took her into custody.

Officers asked her if she knew why she was arrested, and Zamora said she did not know why. Her Miranda Rights were read, but she invoked her Fifth Amendment rights and requested a lawyer.

According to police documents, police served a search warrant at her home where they seized items, including lingerie and an electronic tablet.
