A 72-year-old woman’s request that her son put some cheese in her potato soup ended badly with a bowl of soup in her lap and her son in jail charged with a felony, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.

Ryan F. Lemons, 38, was charged with aggravated battery on a person 65 years or older.

Lemons was being held Friday without bond at the Volusia County Branch Jail.

The soup incident happened about 3:50 p.m. on Thursday in the home shared by the mother and son on Drysdale Drive in Deltona, a charging affidavit said.

The mother was resting in bed when she asked Lemons for something to eat, the affidavit said. Lemons prepared a bowl of potato soup and brought it to her in the bedroom. His mother then asked for some cheese in the soup.

Lemons became upset and told her to take the bowl of soup at which point she replied she no longer wanted it and to take the soup back to the kitchen, the affidavit said.

Lemons dumped the soup in her lap. His mother became upset and called police.
