A teacher in Whitfield County, Georgia has been arrested and charged for an “ongoing” sexual relationship with a student.
32-year-old Elizabeth Scroggs, a language arts teacher at Coahulla Creek High School, was arrested January 18th at the school after admitting to a relationship with an 18-year-old student.
Investigators had received information about the relationship from school administrators.
The relationship had begun in December and occurred off of school property. It was ongoing and consensual, according to authorities.
The sexual relationship was described as ongoing and consensual.
Under Georgia state law, “consent is no defense when one person holds authority over the other.”
She’s been charged with sexual assault by persons with supervisory or disciplinary authority – a felony.
Her first court appearance was January 19th, and she was released on a $25,000 bond.
