An Iowa man assaulted his girlfriend with a hammer Friday evening after she purportedly refused to let him tattoo his name onto her chest.

28-year-old Jonathan Michael Boggs was planning to give a chest tattoo to a woman he’d been in a relationship with for over a month, and told her he wanted that tattoo to be his name. She told him no, and an argument started.

The woman then attempted to leave the house “several times,” according to documents, but Mr. Boggs stopped her, grabbed a hammer, and threatened to kill her before striking her with it.

Authorities were called to the home at around 6:30 p.m. to meet with the victim. Cops found the perpetrator on the front porch with the hammer sitting at his feet.

He was charged with aggravated domestic assault and going armed with intent.

He’s currently being held in the Woodbury County Jail on a $10,000 bond.

He’s due in court on September 13th.
