A man being held by detectives for allegations of sex abuse hoped a face full of bruises would set him free, but it only left him looking stupid.

California man, Aleksander R. Tomaszewski, thought freedom was only a police brutality claim away, and decided that punching himself in the face would help sell allegations of Lane County detectives lumping him up during a Jan. 9 interview, said Sgt. Carrier Carver, a sheriff's officer spokeswoman.

But as it turns out, video captured while Tomaszewski was confined in a holding cell showed him throwing a flurry of punches at his own face that left him bruised up like a soft tomato. On Feb. 10, Tomaszewski was convicted for attempted coercion and filing a false report. The initial charges of sex-abuse were dismissed, according to the Sheriff's office records.
