42-year-old Stephen Ruth of Centereach, Long Island was arrested after he posted a video on Facebook that showed him tampering with traffic cameras. He did it an apparent attempt to show others how to avoid getting tickets. He used an extension rod, used for painting hard-to-reach areas, and knocked the cameras out of their fixed positions so they wouldn’t be able to take snapshots of cars blowing through red lights.

He tampered with two cameras on Ocean Avenue and the Long Island Expressway South Service Rd. on Thursday, August 20th, and the next day as well. Then he altered the direction of two cameras on Hawkins Avenue and the Long Island Expressway Service Road on Tuesday, August 25th. After he was finished, the cameras only recorded clouds.

He’s charged with four counts of criminal tampering and obstruction of governmental administration.
