18 year old Boitumelo Dlamini, a 12th grade student at the Elepsa Secondary School in South Africa, was burnt to death by her boyfriend, Tokelo Makalepho’s, jealous ex-girlfriend.

On Thursday, June 25th, Boitumelo Dlamini was kidnapped by the ex-girlfriend and three of her friends after school. She was forced into a car and driven to a field in Klipgat North West where they drenched her in gasoline, set her on fire, and left her to burn to death.

Dlamini’s sister reported that Makalepho’s ex-girlfriend had repeatedly threatened her sister since they had started dating. Makalepho told police that his ex, the mother of his 19-month-old daughter, said she would only accept their break-up if he ‘promised to date ugly women who already had children’. He also claims that she told him that any new girlfriend of his must not have a matric certificate (South Africa’s equivalent of a high school diploma).

North West police spokesman Captain Paul Ramaloko confirmed that four arrests had been made in regards to the case. The suspects were scheduled to appear in the Brits Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, June 30th.
