News Release

October 14, 2013

On October 10, 2013 a Lenoir County Sheriff’s deputy (Resource Officer) at South Lenoir High School, Deep Run, NC, was made aware of an allegation of a sexual relationship between a South Lenoir music teacher and an 18 year old South Lenoir High School student. The information was derived from school administrators at South Lenoir High School. A criminal investigation ensued and as a result the teacher, Jennifer SinClair, age 28, was arrested at her Lenoir County home on October 11, 2013 by Detective Christy Smith. SinClair was taken to the Lenoir County courthouse and charged with (2) counts of SEXUAL ACTIVITY WITH A STUDENT. She was given a $15,000 bond, which she later made and was released.

Sheriff Chris Hill stated, “The school system acted quickly to investigate the rumors of this relationship. My officers ran with the information and obtained a formal confession from SinClair and were able to obtain an interview with the student, which corroborated the statement of SinClair. None of the acts are believed to have occurred at the school and the relationship appears to have been of a short duration.”
