The Pensacola man who leveraged his viral mugshots into Instagram stardom is back in jail.
Charles McDowell, 31, was arrested in July 2018 in Escambia County on multiple charges after he was allegedly found with a fanny pack carrying cocaine, crack cocaine, meth and other narcotics.
He was released on bond Nov. 19 and was arrested two days later in Lee County, Alabama, on charges of attempting to elude law enforcement, marijuana possession, reckless driving and driving with a revoked license.
The state of Florida filed a motion in December to revoke McDowell’s bond related to his Escambia County charges, and he was arrested Tuesday and booked into Escambia County Jail just before 8:30 p.m.
With no bond, he’ll be behind bars until he faces trial for the charges filed against him in July. His next court appearance is Feb. 21.
McDowell’s mugshots went viral after after they were shared all over the internet toward the end of 2018 as people poked fun at his unusually wide neck. After he posted bond, he wasted no time capitalizing off of his newfound “wide neck” persona by creating an Instagram account with the user name “damnwideneck.”
He currently has more than 1.3 million followers on Instagram, where he has posted videos and photos alongside other internet personalities, and used humor to exploit the width of his neck, such as his posts about his “All Necks Matter” T-shirts.
