Tuesday night, 24-year-olds Kayla & Kristi Bergeron entered a Daytona Beach convenience store around 6 p.m. and robbed it gunpoint.

According to the Daytona Beach Police Department, the twins approached the register with a 20-ounce bottle of ginger ale and set it on the counter.

Kayla (above, right) then put her hand into her pocket and demanded that the cashier open the register, saying she had a gun.

The cashier says he asked her if she was kidding, at which point she pulled out a small handgun and pointed it at him, indicating she probably wasn’t. He went ahead and opened the register.

Kristi (above, left) allegedly reached into the register, then the two girls exited the store.

The two made off with $230 in cash and the ginger ale, and were seen leaving in a black Volkswagon Beetle.

A DBPD officer spotted the Beetle nearby a few minutes later and pulled it over. The girls were taken into custody.

Upon searching the vehicle, no gun was found, but the cash and ginger ale were.

Kayla is being held at the Volusia County Jail on a $5,000, charged with armed robbery. Kristi was also charged with armed robbery, but her bond was set at $20,000.

According to the arrest affidavit, Kayla is a Daytona Beach resident, and Kristi hails from Portland, Oregon.
