Mexico has deployed almost 15,000 soldiers and members of its National Guard in the north of the country to stem the flow of illegal immigration across the border into the United States. Mexico has not traditionally used security forces to stop undocumented foreign citizens leaving the country for the U.S., and photographs of militarized police catching Central American and Cuban women at the border in recent days have met with criticism. Mexico is trying to curb a surge of migrants from third countries crossing its territory in order to reach the United States, under the threat of tariffs on its exports by U.S. President Donald Trump, who has made tightening border security a priority

Thieves in Ireland pulled off a scoop and score, and it’s all caught on camera.

Surveillance video shows one man driving a digger, or back hoe, through a security gate. The man uses the giant claw on the digger to scoop the ATM from the wall and lift it into the getaway car.

The bad guys cut out part of the roof on the car so the ATM would fit.

They drove off with the cash machine sticking out of the roof

A pilot slammed a small plane kamikaze-style into a Botswana clubhouse in a deranged bid to kill his wife, who was attending a baby shower there, according to reports. South African pilot Charl Viljoen of Kalahari Air Services had first shown up uninvited at the shower held at the Matsieng Aerodome near Mochudi, the club’s spokesman, Mark Mansfield, told The Citizen. South Africa’s Eyewitness News reported that the husband and wife had a dispute there that turned physical, although others claiming to be witnesses told The Citizen that there wasn’t even a public argument.

Then Viljoen allegedly went to Botswana’s capital, Gaborone, stole a KingAir 200 aircraft and flew it over the venue — close to the South African border — multiple times at a low level. A man told Eyewitness News that before the plane crashed, Viljoen had called his friend, who was at the venue.

“He phoned his one mate on the ground there who was still at the party, and he wanted to know where his wife was,” the man said. “The guy that he called started shouting so that the 60 people attending get away.” Viljoen was taken to nearby Deborah Retief Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead, luckily no one else was killed.

This is the moment a politician is ambushed in the street and shot in both legs by a man armed with an assault rifle.

Suleyman Sarikaya, 55, was returning with shopping from a local bakery when he was attacked in the town of Menderes in western Turkey’s Izmir Province.

CCTV security cameras captured the moment a man armed with what appears to be a large, M16-like assault rifle jumps out of a white car and runs up to him.

The gunman shoots Mr. Sariyaka in both legs at point-blank range and then jumps back into his car and drives off.

Mr. Sariyaka is seen lying on the ground unable to get up before passersby eventually come to his aid.

The injured man is a member of Turkey’s ruling party, the Justice and Development Party (AKP), who is standing for a seat on the local council in elections on March 31st.

A local man, named only by police as Mehmet O., later handed himself into to a police station in the town and reportedly admitted responsibility for the attack.

Mr. Sariyaka, who works in the local tourism industry, had previous dealings with the man, according to his lawyer, Ciler Nazife Kosar.

His lawyer said she had previously made a complaint to police on behalf of her client over alleged harassment by Mehmet O.

She added: “Unfortunately, the case did not go to court and now my client has been shot. Is it necessary for him to die before anything happens?”

Paramedics treated Mr. Sariyaka at the scene before taking him by ambulance to the Katip Celebi Research and Training Hospital in the city of Izmir.

He is in the hospital’s intensive care unit and is due to undergo surgery.

Strasbourg, France: A man who had been flagged as a possible extremist sprayed gunfire near the city of Strasbourg’s famous Christmas market on Tuesday night, killing three people, wounding 12 and sparking a massive manhunt. France immediately raised its terror alert level.

It was unclear if the market – a popular gathering place that was the nucleus of an al-Qaeda-linked plot in 2000 – was the intended target. The assailant got inside a security zone around the venue and opened fire from there, Mayor Roland Ries said on BFM television.

Police in southern Spain have seized a nearly nine tonne haul of cocaine hidden in a boat transporting bananas from Colombia – the largest ever shipment of the drug found entering Europe. The haul of 8.74 tonnes was found stashed among 1080 boxes of bananas on the boat, Mr Zoido said, hailing it as “the biggest stash seized in a shipment in all of Europe”. The drugs are estimated to have a street value in the hundreds of millions.
